"A force for good'

President Clinton gives the Medal of Freedom, the highest U.S. civilian award, to former President Jimmy Carter on Monday. Clinton honored Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, for their work since leaving the White House in 1981. "Together, through their many good works and their powerful example, they have lifted the dignity of people everywhere," the citation said.
