Cortez Subway robbed for second time in a week

For the second time in a week, someone robbed the Subway restaurant at 13078 Cortez Blvd. and made off with $243 in cash. A man with a black, short-barreled handgun entered the store at 12:20 a.m. Saturday and told the clerk, "Dog, give me all your money, dog," according to a Hernando County Sheriff's Office report.

After grabbing the cash, the man ran south across the shopping center and into some nearby woods. A sheriff's dog picked up a track but did not find the man.

He is described as white with an olive complexion and was wearing a long-sleeved, crew-neck baggy white T-shirt, which was pulled over his hands and part of the gun. The clerk also thought a man standing outside the restaurant also may have been involved.

On Wednesday night, a man held up another clerk at the Subway and took $177 in cash. No one has been arrested in that case. Sheriff's spokeswoman Deanna Dammer said the two robberies appear unrelated. Dammer encouraged anyone with information to call the Sheriff's Office at 754-6830 or the anonymous tips line at 797-8477.
