Oscar winner Helen Hunt is attached to star in the adventure film From Alice to Ocean, which USA Films is in talks to make.
The film is based on the story of Robyn Davidson, who crossed the Australian outback with three camels and a dog to sort out her life and discover its meaning. Davidson recounted her adventures in the books From Alice to Ocean and Tracks: a Woman's Solo Trek Across 1,700 Miles of Australian Outback.
Hunt, a three-time Emmy winner for NBC's Mad About You, won a best actress Oscar for As Good as It Gets. She has also starred in the films Twister, Mr. Saturday Night and the upcoming Cast Away, opposite Tom Hanks.
Johnny Depp leads cast
of World War II movie
Johnny Depp is committed to star with Christina Ricci in Sally Potter's World War II story The Man Who Cried. Cate Blanchett and John Turturro are also in discussions to join the $20-million film, which is scheduled to begin shooting next month.
Potter, who directed Orlando, will write and direct the film, which follows a young woman who flees Germany for Paris in hopes of eventually making it to the United States.
Depp co-stars with Ricci in Tim Burton's upcoming Sleepy Hollow and appears this fall in The Astronaut's Wife and The Ninth Gate. His other credits include Donnie Brasco, Ed Wood and Don Juan DeMarco.
An Oscar nominee for Elizabeth, Blanchett also starred in Pushing Tin, An Ideal Husband and the upcoming The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Heathers writer Daniel Waters will make his directorial debut on Happy Campers, to start shooting next month. Brad Renfro and Dominique Swain will star in the picture, which tells the story of camp counselors who take it upon themselves to spice up the leadership of their young charges.
Swain starred in Lolita and will be seen in Mary Jane's Last Dance and L'Intern. Renfro's credits include The Client, Tom and Huck, Sleepers and Apt Pupil.
