McRae: Hello, I must be going

Just nine days after acquiring him from the Mets, the Rockies traded OF Brian McRae to the Jays on Monday for a player to be named.

McRae, 31, came to the Rockies on July 31 as part of a trade that sent OF Darryl Hamilton and LHP Chuck McElroy to the Mets. He is in the final year of a multiyear contract that pays him $3.75-million this season.

McRae is hitting .224 this season with 14 doubles, 1 triple, 9 homers and 37 RBI. In seven games with Colorado, McRae hit .261 with 1 homer and 1 RBI.

OF Edgard Clemente, 23, was recalled from Triple A.

Clemente was hitting .304 with 16 homers and 59 RBI in 75 games at Colorado Springs. He played in 18 games for the Rockies in May and June, and hit his first major-league homer on June 9 against Seattle.

ASTROS: 3B Ken Caminiti (strained right calf) will begin a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A New Orleans today and is expected to rejoin the major-league club this weekend. Caminiti, 36, was placed on the disabled list May 22.

EXPOS: INF Geoff Blum, 26, was called up from Triple-A Ottawa to replace injured SS Orlando Cabrera. Manager Felipe Alou put him in the lineup Monday, batting eighth against the Padres.

METS: RHP Rick Reed (strained ligament in finger) was placed on the 15-day disabled list. The 33-year-old, 7-1 in his past 12 starts, will not pick up a ball for 10 days. "It might just be nature's way of telling Rick Reed he'll be rested at the end of the season," manager Bobby Valentine said. With Reed out, Valentine said RHP Masato Yoshii will return to the rotation and start Friday in San Francisco. RHP Dan Murray was called up from Triple-A Norfolk, but RHP Bobby Jones (shoulder) made a minor-league rehab start Saturday and could return soon.

PHILLIES: RHP Curt Schilling (bursitis in shoulder) received a cortisone shot in hopes that he won't miss any more starts. Schilling, who made 117 consecutive starts before missing two recently, said he felt immediate relief, and the Phillies expect him to start as scheduled Friday at Cincinnati.
