Report: Disney may sell Angels

The Walt Disney Co. said reports it is considering selling the Angels are rumor.

"We do not comment on rumor," said Chris Castro, director of corporate communications for Disney.

The Los Angeles Times reported Monday that Disney is considering a sale but hasn't spoken with potential buyers. The New York Times had a similar report Sunday.

The Angels had high hopes entering the season and a high payroll as well _ a franchise-record $60-million. But they have fallen out of contention in the West.

In a roster move, former Cy Young winner Jack McDowell, who failed in his attempt to make a comeback from elbow and shoulder surgery, was given his unconditional release. RHP Lou Pote was called up from Triple-A Edmonton.

BLUE JAYS: 1B David Segui (non-displaced broken knuckle) is listed as day-to-day. Segui will have the hand re-examined today. Carlos Delgado likely will play first base in Segui's absence.

INDIANS: RHP Jaret Wright (muscle strain in back) went on the 15-day DL. LHP Chris Haney, who allowed Wade Boggs' 3,000th hit, was designated for assignment. LHP Tom Martin (shoulder surgery) came off the DL. RHP David Riske was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo.

M'S: RHP Frankie Rodriguez was fined and suspended seven games for his role in a brawl in a game against the Yankees. The suspension should start after the five-game suspension of RHP Jose Paniagua.

YANKEES: RHP Jeff Nelson (elbow surgery) is set to rejoin the club Wednesday after five scoreless rehab appearances. SS prospect Alfonso Soriano (oblique strain) started a rehab stint and went 0-for-3. RHP Jason Grimsley was fined and suspended three games for his role in a brawl in a game against the Mariners. Grimsley's suspension should start today.

ROYALS: RHPs Jeff Montgomery and Terry Mathews came off the DL.
