Winter Haven man hit, killed on U.S. 19

A 35-year-old Winter Haven man was killed Sunday morning after a car struck him while he was walking at U.S. 19 and New York Avenue, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Desmond Franks, whose address was unavailable, was crossing U.S. 19 on foot about 2 a.m. when he entered the path of a 1990 Plymouth going northbound and was struck, the report said. He was pronounced dead at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. No major injuries were reported to the occupants of the Plymouth. The FHP said the case remains under investigation.

Correction

A list of nationally accredited child care centers in Pasco County published Sunday in the Times omitted the name of St. Thomas Aquinas Early Childhood Center, 8320 State Road 54, New Port Richey. Also, several scores in a chart detailing the evaluations of local day care centers were incorrect. The corrected chart appears today on PAGE 3.
