Gateway Mall's rebirth continues with the addition of Shoe Carnival. The store that bills itself as a family shoe retailer carrying name brands opens Aug. 19 next to TJ Maxx.
The store will employ 12 people and carry 22,000 pairs of shoes, said Mark L. Lemond, president and chief executive officer. Featured name brands in athletic shoes include Converse, Nike, Reebok and Adidas. Casual shoes from Rockport and Dexter, among others, will be stocked.
Shoe Carnival, an Indiana chain with 130 stores, plans to open 30 new stores this year. The St. Petersburg store is the 17th in that effort. Other Shoe Carnivals in Florida are in Seminole, Jacksonville, Daytona, Brandon and Orlando. The chairman of the board of Shoe Carnival is J. Wayne Weaver, owner of the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars.
