Police looking for man who used counterfeit bill

Published Sep. 29, 2005

Police are warning businesses to watch out for counterfeit bills after a man tried to pass a fake $50 bill at the Subway restaurant on Treasure Island.

The man handed the phony bill to a Subway clerk Monday afternoon, said Treasure Island police Detective K.T. Lovelace.

The clerk tested the bill using a marker that detects whether a bill is legitimate. Some businesses have a policy of testing large bills.

Treasure Island police are looking for the customer, described as a neatly dressed white man in his early 40s with salt-and-pepper hair and a Southern accent. He was tanned, and about 6 feet 2 and 180 pounds.
