The St. Petersburg Stingers 10 and Under AAU team, which plays out of Fossil Park, finished second at the AAU national tournament in Kansas City, Mo.
The Stingers won eight consecutive games to reach the final but lost 8-4 to the Deltona Sun Devils in the championship game.
The top three in the tournament's 29-team field were from Florida _ the Jacksonville Thunder finished third.
Three Stingers were selected to the AAU All-National team _ Austin Gaines, Nick Shaw and Byron Jones.
Palm Harbor's Dickie Hart, a four-year starter at second base at Florida Atlantic, signed with the Anaheim Angels on Friday and reported to to the Boise Hawks in the Class A Midwest League.
Hart's younger brother Chris, who also played his high school baseball at Clearwater Central Catholic and is now at Florida State, caught for the Winchester (Va.) Royals in the collegiate Shenandoah League this summer.
He batted .310, was named to the league all-star team and his Royals team lost in the finals of the league championship series.
The Hart brothers' college teams were both derailed by NCAA champion Miami this season by one run.
Florida Atlantic lost to the Hurricanes 3-2 in the South Regional final and the Seminoles lost 6-5 in the NCAA championship game.
Lisa Cronauer, St. Petersburg Catholic's all-time leading scorer, has accepted and academic/athletic scholarship to Saint Leo College.
Cronauer was a Times honorable mention all-Suncoast guard the past two seasons. She was second-team all-Pinellas twice and second-team Class 3A as a senior. A release from St. Petersburg Catholic said she will study business administration.
