A 42-year-old man is accused of hitting his girlfriend and pushing her daughter into a fence post. Walter C. Hyatt of 24501 Malvern St., north of Brooksville, faces charges of aggravated assault, battery and child abuse, according to a Hernando County sheriff's report. The incident began about 5 p.m. Saturday when Hyatt forced his girlfriend, Debra Hendry, 44, to kiss him and then threw a hammer at her, the report said. Later, he chased the 7-year-old girl around the house and pushed her into a fence pole, the report said. Hyatt told a deputy that he threw the hammer but denied the other accusations. He was taken to the Hernando County Jail, where he remained Wednesday afternoon in lieu of $1,000 bail.
