Dunedin tabs Carli as coach

Dunedin has hired Michael Carli, 36, as its new varsity volleyball coach. Carli, who has owned the Palm Harbor-based Top Notch Pest Control for 10 years, coached most recently at Largo. He was the Packers' coach from 1992-94. He also has coached at the club level at the YMCA, run local tournaments and refereed.

One of his first orders of business was to name Andrew Wilson the junior varsity coach. Wilson was a student assistant at East Lake last year.

Carli said he wants his players to be focused and learn.

"I don't cut people," Carli said. "You can only dress a certain amount of people, but players are always welcome to stay in the program."

He also said he wants his team to have its priorities straight.

"I want them to think about why they are here," he said.
