NEW THIS WEEK

Bowfinger (PG-13) (97 min.) B- _ A hapless Hollywood producer (Steve Martin) schemes to make a movie with a celebrity star (Eddie Murphy) without the actor's knowledge. Martin wrote the script, and Heather Graham (Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me) co-stars.

Detroit Rock City (R) (95 min.) B _ Four teenagers road-trip to a KISS concert in 1978, and learn a little about life along the way. Starring Edward Furlong (American History X).

Drop Dead Gorgeous (PG-13) (95 min.) C _ A small-town teen beauty pageant turns nasty in this repetitiously tasteless comedy. Starring Kirsten Dunst, Kirstie Alley and Ellen Barkin.

Brokedown Palace (PG-13) (105 min.) A- _ Effective tale of two American girls (Claire Danes, Kate Beckinsale) who are framed from drug trafficking and imprisoned in Thailand. Bill Pullman co-stars.

Run, Lola, Run (R) (76 min.) B+ _ A woman races to save her lover after he loses a fortune in mob money. The caper seems simple enough, until the audience witnesses it in two more versions that differ according to the quirks of coincidence. German with English subtitles.

Stop Making Sense (NR) (88 min.) A _ Jonathan Demme's documentary of a 1984 Talking Heads concert still ranks as one of the best rock 'n' roll movies of all time.
