Development clears another obstacle

(ran PC edition)

Hillside Golf and Country Club, the 950-home gated development that will replace the last commercial orange grove on Collier Parkway, is one step closer to breaking ground later this year.

The Pasco County Planning Commission this week changed the zoning on 387 acres from agricultural to residential. The county commissioners are expected to approve the development next week.

Hillside is a project of Skyland Development Inc., a division of Evans Groves. Evans has followed the pattern of other citrus farmers in Land O'Lakes in plowing under groves for subdivisions.

The development will consist of medium-priced to upscale houses organized in villages around the 18 holes of the 7,000-yard golf course.

Hillside is bounded on the west by Collier, on the north by Lake Padgett Estates East and on the southwest by the Land O'Lakes Recreation Center.
