FABRIC TEST: Before throwing your uncut fashion fabric into the washing machine, test a strip of the cloth under the faucet with a little detergent. If the color runs, add \ cup of salt and \ cup of white vinegar to a cold water rinse. That will help set the color and keep your garment brighter longer.

RAISE THE ROOF: Though small baths can seem much bigger with 9- to 10-foot ceilings, the perception of height can be achieved even if you don't have high ceilings. Use wallpaper with vertical stripes and avoid horizontal stripes or checks. If possible, add a window or skylight to bring in natural light.

SILKY SAVVY: If your silk plants tend to fall over from the weight of the arrangement, try placing some bags of heavy sand in the bottom of the pot to weigh it down.
