Lottery player claims $126,560

An Inverness woman became the county's latest big-money lottery winner, as Elizabeth Simon, 75, cashed in a Mega Money ticket worth $126,560 Friday in Tallahassee.

"Not only did I claim my prize on Friday the 13th, but I was also born on Friday the 13th in 1924," Simon said in a news release from the offices of the Florida Lottery.

Simon, who has lived in Inverness for 20 years, used the quick-pick system that randomly selects lottery numbers via a computer to play Mega Money.

She beat the odds of about one in 1-million to match the numbers in the July 23 drawing, said a lottery official.

Mega Money, the newest game from the lottery, involves picking four numbers in a field of 32 and a fifth number, called the MegaBall number, from a second field of 32 numbers. Drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m.

Simon was accompanied to lottery headquarters by her son, Edward Simon Jr., and her daughter, Debbie Simon.

"I guess Friday the 13th is a lucky day for me," she told the lottery department.

Lottery officials said Friday that Simon has shunned publicity and was probably out of town.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Circle K convenience store at 1224 U.S. 41 N, Inverness.
