219 yards, par 3
This par 3 over water proved to be the second-most difficult of the day, yielding just 17 birdies but eight double bogeys or worse. Jay Haas was the only player among the leaders to birdie it.
"That was probably the highlight of the day," Haas said. "I hit a 3-iron to about 15 feet behind the hole and made that putt. I stood on the tee watching the group in front of us, and I had a lot of time to think about it. I was just glad to get that one over with."
QUOTE OF THE DAY
"These young people now come out and they hit the ball full out and blast away and go for it and they're very straight. It's an awesome thing when you have controlled power as they do. But I've had to do something else along the way to make up for that. When I'm comparing my distance with (Sergio) Garcia and (Phil) Mickelson, I can't compete. But my irons are pretty good. I keep the ball in play. I make a putt every now and again, and I control my game and get the most out of it. They are awesome, these guys. Unbelievable. But being the oldest player in the field probably gives me more experience." _ Hale Irwin 54 year old
