A Zephyrhills man already under suspicion of fondling a young girl was charged Thursday with committing a similar crime more than 20 years ago and may be named in additional cases, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. According to arrest reports, Harry Eugene Ayers, 68, of 39335 Louise Drive, was taken into custody Monday afternoon after a 3-year-old girl told her parents Ayers had molested her. He was charged with capital sexual battery and booked into the Pasco County Jail in Land O'Lakes. Authorities said a second victim, now in her mid-30s, came forward Thursday and said Ayers molested her repeatedly between 1966 and 1976. According to an arrest report filed Thursday, Ayers confessed to the earlier incidents and was charged with a second count of capital sexual battery. The charge carries a maximum punishment of life in prison without parole. Deputies reported that Ayers admitted to molesting other children, sparking other investigations. Ayers remained in jail Friday with bail set at $100,000.
