ADULT EDUCATION

While next week marks the beginning of the school year for the kids, adults are reminded that it's never to late to learn. Courses on a variety of topics _ from General Educational Development preparation to computers to poetry workshops _ are offered at schools throughout the county. Most classes will be starting in September. Some will run only if enough students register. Those thinking of broadening their horizons or perhaps completing something they started years ago should call the following schools for registration or information about times, days and fees:

Central Pasco:

Land O'Lakes High School Adult Education, 20325 Gator Lane, Land O'Lakes. Adult basic education, GED preparation and high school completion classes. Community interest classes include introduction to computers, SAT preparation, basic driver improvement and ADAPT (state of Florida required course for restricted driver's license). East Pasco:

Moore Mickens Education Center, 38301 Martin Luther King Blvd., Dade City. High school completion, GED preparation, adult basic education, basic driver improvement. Vocational certification programs include patient care assistant, food services, child care assistant and cosmetology. Call (352) 567-2084.

Pasco High School Adult Education: 36850 State Rd., 52, Dade City. High school completion. Call (352) 524-5504 after 1 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Zephyrhills High School Adult Education: 6635 12th St., Zephyrhills. High school completion, adult basic education, GED preparation and introduction to computers. Call (813) 794-6195 after 1 p.m. Monday-Friday.

West Pasco:

Gulf High School Adult Education, 5355 School Road, New Port Richey. High school completion classes, adult basic education, GED preparation. Community interest classes include quilting, personal finance, introduction to IBM computers/Windows, intermediate computers/word processing, introduction to the Internet, Coast Guard safe boating, FCC testing, Toastmasters International public speaking and West model pilots. Hudson High School Adult Education, 14410 Cobra Way, Hudson. High school completion classes, adult basic education, GED preparation. Community interest classes include Coast Guard safe boating classes, conversational Spanish, country line dancing, Internet, introduction to computers, life story writing, nature hiking for women (one-day hikes to areas of interest in south and central Florida), poetry workshop, sewing for fun, Web page design and Windows 95/98. Marchman Technical Education Center, 7825 Campus Drive, New Port Richey. High school completion classes, adult basic education, GED preparation and English for speakers of other languages. Community interest classes include business and personal computer, ham radio, Power Squadron safe boating classes. Vocational certificate programs include patient care assisting, home health aide, child care training, carpentry, electrical wiring, electronics, air conditioning and refrigeration, and motorcycle safety. River Ridge Middle/High School Adult Education: High school completion classes. Community interest classes include basket weaving, cake decorating, creative photography, Internet, tennis, veggie cooking, Windows 95/98, yoga. Call (727) 774-7232.
