Clearwater Civitan names new officers

Fred Novo-Mesky has been elected president of Clearwater Civitan Club. Other officers include Betty Leiby, president-elect, Priscilla Ingraham, secretary, and Sue Meier, treasurer. Elected as directors were past president Carl Leiby, Ron Meier, George Van Diver and Earle Peddicord. Elected to be trustees of the Civitan Education fund were Betty Leiby, Ron Meier and George Van Diver.

Sons of Norway lodge

awards scholarships

Suncoast Lodge 562 Sons of Norway has awarded $1,000 in scholarships to two young students.

Sarah Beth Garbutt, a 1999 graduate of Largo High School, received $500 from the organization to be applied to her expenses as a student of pre-med at the University of Florida, Gainesville. She is the daughter of Susan and George Garbutt of Largo and the granddaughter of Helen and Vilho Johnson, Pinellas Park. Her goal is to become a pediatric trauma doctor.

Carol Jalowiec, granddaughter of Terri and Jim Berge of Clearwater, has also received $500 to attend Northern Illinois University where she plans to major in graphic design. A frequent visitor here, she is the daughter of Janet and Philip Jalowiec of Palos Park, Ill., and a graduate of Carl Sandburg High School, Orland Park, Ill.

Parents of Multiples

Newly installed officers of Pinellas Parents of Multiples include Temple Settlemire, president; Tracy Tolliver, first vice president; Pat Senn, second vice president; Lisa Brown, secretary, Shelby O'Connor, treasurer; Lisa Saitta, editor; and Kathryn Lawrence and Samantha Waynard, ways and means.

The group, a non-profit support organization of parents of multi-birth children, was founded in 1959. It recently donated $1,200 to All Children's Hospital, St. Petersburg, and $200 to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Their major fundraiser, a biannual toy and clothing sale, is planned for Sept. 18 at Grace Lutheran Church, Clearwater. For information, call (727) 736-2179.

Donoghue Dunedin Toastmasters Club 2166 opened its 26th year recently with the election of the following officers: Elsie Huebner, president; Bill Heyser, vice president of education; Nana Faulkner, vice president of membership; Rajagopal Sukumar, vice president public relations; David Walker, treasurer-secretary; and Fred Huebner, sergeant at arms.
