22-year-old killed in one-car accident

A 22-year-old Pinellas Park man was killed early Sunday when the car he was driving crashed into a ditch and overturned.

Roland E. Ellis, 7677 63rd St., was heading west on Ulmerton Road during the single-car accident about 4:45 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Ellis, who was ejected from the 1987 Chevrolet he was driving, crossed over the median near Automobile Boulevard and veered into the eastbound lane and into the ditch.

The investigation continues, and investigators are awaiting blood tests to determine if alcohol was involved in the accident.

Search ongoing for driver who hit, killed woman

PINELLAS PARK _ Police are still looking for the hit-and-run driver who killed an 81-year-old woman after she wandered Friday night outside the assisted living facility where she lived.

Dorothy Hackett Jones was struck about 8:35 p.m. in front of the home on 70th Avenue, a four-lane road that runs parallel to Park Boulevard.

Police describe the vehicle that struck Mrs. Jones as a candy-apple red and black pickup, possibly a 1980s model, American-made truck. The truck will have damage on the passenger side.

Pinellas Park police ask anyone with information about the pickup or its driver to call investigator J.R. McNeil at (727) 541-0758.
