Recent plane crashes

A list of some recent air disasters:

OCT. 31, 1999: EgyptAir Flight 990, on a flight from New York to Cairo, plummets into the ocean about 60 miles south of Nantucket. All 217 people on board are killed.

FEB. 24, 1999: A China Southwest Airlines passenger plane crashes in a field 250 miles south of Shanghai in China's coastal Zhejiang province. All 61 people aboard are killed.

DEC. 11, 1998: A Thai Airways Airbus A310-200 crashes during a landing attempt at Surat Thani airport, 330 miles south of Bangkok, Thailand. Of those on board, 101 people are killed and 45 survive.

SEPT. 2, 1998: Swissair Flight 111 crashes off the coast of Nova Scotia while en route from New York to Geneva. All 229 people aboard are killed.

JULY 17, 1996: TWA Flight 800 explodes shortly after taking off for Paris from New York's Kennedy International Airport. All 230 passengers aboard are killed.

MAY 11, 1996: ValuJet Flight 592 crashes in the Florida Everglades. All 110 people aboard are killed.
