Official: Light rail would help 1-4 congestion

As a way to alleviate gridlock on Interstate 4, U.S. Rep. John Mica on Monday proposed building a 52-mile commuter rail extending from Volusia to Osceola counties. The Winter Park Republican's proposal, which he detailed at a luncheon of officials and community leaders at Heathrow, would cost an estimated $38-million to $59-million, using CSX railroad tracks. Mica said at least half the project could be paid for with federal funds slated for an Orlando area light rail project that local officials pulled the plug on two months ago.
