CAPTAIN'S CORNER

The opening of snook season this week found many fishermen hunting for a linesider. With colder water temperatures, concentrate your search in and around local creeks, rivers, residential canals and adjacent deep holes.

Snook naturally seek warm water so use Mother Nature to your advantage. With the sun radiating onto a black muddy bottom, water temperatures from mid-morning through afternoon become significantly warmer, allowing snook to become more active.

Another key to locating feeding snook is to find schools of glass minnows in the same areas. These minnows are easy targets for the large-mouthed snook. Remember these fish are less aggressive this time of year. Patience is key and will pay off if you are in the right spot.
