A week from today, Hudson and Central will compete in the same gym with much more on the line, but Wednesday, the Cobras were happy enough with their 42-25 victory, their second against the Bears in five days.

Central (19-8-1) led 25-21 with four weight classes to go, but Hudson (15-4) closed strong, with three pins from Jon Delucco (173), Rob Philippus (217) and Larry Barabas.

"The guys wrestled well, and we always expect a good match with Central," Hudson coach Dana Bentley said. "We match up well with them, and it's good for the guys to come out with another win."

The first match pitted two of the area's best in the 105-pound class, but Cobras senior Pat Rieli dominated Central freshman Bucky Solomon 18-0. Rieli improved to 26-2, while Solomon dropped to 28-4.

Five of the first seven matches were lopsided, as Central's Tim Sullivan (121) won 18-4, Bears sophomore Nick Correa (127) won 15-0, then Hudson's Aaron Tirrell (142) and Central's Justin Fowler (147) followed with double-digit victories.

The closest match was in the 154-pound class, where Central's Josh Wogan, trailing 7-6 in the third period, battled back to take control and pin Zenon Herrera in 5:15 for Central's only fall.

Delucco improved to 28-1 with an impressive pin of Central's Chris Purnell (26-6), who had not been pinned this season. Philippus was in control of Mike Zwierko from the start in the 217-pound match, taking a 15-1 lead early in the second period before getting the pin to improve to 32-4 on the season.

Central will host the Class A, District 6 meet Thursday, with Hudson, Pasco and Lecanto among the favorites in the nine-team field.

"The meet went pretty much the way I thought it would," Central coach Alan Solomon said. "Dana's done a good job with his kids."
