Nearly parade ready

Hewett Rivers tinkers with electrical wiring on a Ye Mystic Krewe float in preparation for the Gasparilla Parade in Tampa on Saturday. Rivers plans to mount lights on the front of the float so the driver can see his way home from the parade. The mock invasion of Tampa is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. when shiploads of pirates dock at the Tampa Convention Center. The parade starts at 1:45 p.m. and will follow Bayshore Boulevard from Howard Avenue into downtown Tampa, cross the Platt Street bridge and end at the Kennedy Boulevard bridge near the University of Tampa. A street festival will be downtown from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
