Class 2A, District 6 Boys

WHO: Springstead vs. Hudson.

WHERE: Hudson.

WHEN: 7 p.m.

THE SKINNY: These were clearly the two best teams in the district this season, and their styles are similar. The Eagles (11-4-2) rely on a great defense, headed by keeper John Calabrese, while the Cobras rely on keeper Geoff Grant. But the Eagles' defense has been better as Hudson's unit has failed to live up to the preseason hype.

Fortunately for the Cobras (18-6), their offense has come alive in recent weeks thanks to Robert Pollock, who has six goals in the past four games. The Eagles are led by Steven Bates, whose hat trick in the semifinals gave him 20 goals for the season.

During the regular season, the teams split two games, with Hudson winning 2-0 on Dec. 10 and the Eagles returning the favor 2-1 on Jan. 7.

Class 2A, District 6 Girls

WHO: Springstead vs. Zephyrhills.

WHERE: Hernando.

WHEN: 7 p.m.

THE SKINNY: Two high-scoring attacks meet up for this one as the Bulldogs try to defend their district title. The Eagles (14-2-3) are all the way back after a few lean years and are trying to knock off a team that is making its fourth consecutive trip to the district final.

The Eagles boast the North Suncoast's top goal scorer in Angie DeAngelis, who now has 48 goals after netting four in the semifinals, and Nicole Bernhardt, who had a hat trick to raise her total to 16. Zephyrhills (12-6-2) may be without its leading scorer in DeeDee Castro, who was hurt in the semifinals, but still has Joslynn Willis (21 goals) and Ashley McGavern (18) to provide the scoring.

The Bulldogs have won eight in a row, the last six by shutout while outscoring foes 34-0, and during the regular season beat Springstead once and scored a late goal to tie the other game they played.

Class 3A, District 10 Girls

WHO: Palm Harbor University/Ridgewood winner vs. Land O'Lakes/River Ridge winner.

WHERE: Land O'Lakes.

WHEN: 8 p.m.

THE SKINNY: PHU is the clear favorite to reach tonight's final in this district _ they beat Thursday night semifinal opponent Ridgewood 10-0 and 9-1 during the regular season _ and should win it, regardless of who emerges from the other semifinal. The Hurricanes are the defending Class 5A state champion and have a sterling 19-1 record.

The other semi is not so clear-cut. River Ridge is 6-0-1 against Land O'Lakes in their last seven meetings, but the young Gators have 45-goal scorer Stacy Bishop, who could easily break out of her Royal Knight drought at any time. River Ridge (17-4-3) also has a talented goal scorer in Lindsey Jones.

In every game but one that River Ridge has scored in this season, Jones also has scored. Jones also has scored in the past eight River Ridge games, all victories. In those eight, the Royal Knights have compiled a 48-5 scoring edge.
