PLAYERS TO WATCH

Kelly Nelson, Sophomore, Shorecrest: Nelson played No. 1 for the Chargers last season and won the district and regional tournaments. She advanced to the state semifinals before losing. Rated No. 10 in the USTA under-16 rankings, Nelson will be tough to beat this season.

Jennifer Dent, Sophomore, Countryside: Dent burst onto the scene last season and became the Cougars' No. 1 player. She was a Times first-team all-county selection last season, and according to coach Holly Loy, she looks even better this season. Rated No. 20 in the state by the USTA junior rankings.

Nicole Cercone, Senior, Seminole: This is Cercone's season to shine after playing behind Lori Grey and Lauren Scaglione. A powerful player, Cercone has potential to advance to the state tournament.

Natalie Tirapelli, Senior, Canterbury: Tirapelli played No. 1 singles last season and teamed with Gina Craig in No. 1 doubles. She is the leader of a strong Canterbury team, and a spot in the state tournament would not be surprising.
