A construction crew accidentally cut an underground telephone cable Friday afternoon in the Sunset Beach area, cutting off phone service to about 180 homes for much of the rest of the day.
The phones were still out Friday evening, but GTE expected to the problem to be fixed by this morning.
A Treasure Island city crew looking for a sewer pipe put a probe into the ground and instead pulled up a telephone cable, damaging it at about 1:30 p.m., said GTE spokeswoman Cristina Coffin. The area affected was around 86th Terrace and West Gulf Boulevard, she said.
