Accused murderer declines plea deal

Sylvia Maraman on Thursday rejected state prosecutors' deal of 20{ years for pleading guilty. Her first-degree murder trial is set for Monday.

Maraman has admitted shooting Arthur Danner, 73, on May 24, 1998, at his Land O'Lakes mobile home. Investigators say she shot him with a .357-revolver, reloaded and fired a final shot to his groin.

Maraman contends Danner bragged about molesting her 12-year-old daughter and threatened to do it again. Her attorney, Darlene Calzon Barror, said Maraman's state of mind, history of drug and alcohol abuse, mental illness and sexual abuse would be factors for jurors to consider before deciding if Maraman is guilty.
