RARE PALMS OF SUNKEN GARDENS: 2 p.m. today, at the gardens, 1825 Fourth St. N, St. Petersburg. Join Rick Nale, palm enthusiast and member of the Central Florida Chapter of the International Palm Society, for a presentation and guided tour of rare and unusual palms at Sunken Gardens. While you're here, wander a bit; the existing gardens have been spruced up and more than 6,000 new plants added by St. Petersburg city parks crews. ORCHIDS AND ART: 7:30 p.m. Thur., Central Christian Church, 1200 Keene Road, Clearwater. Stig Dalstrom, internationally known botanist and artist whose orchid paintings are widely held in private collections and used as book illustrations, will present a program on Cyrtochilum orchids at this meeting of the Florida West Coast Orchid Society.
