Getting ready for the show

What do you get when you team 25 professional artists with 25 developmentally challenged student artists? Two vibrant exhibitions, on display at the Museum of Fine Arts, 255 Beach Drive NE, and Florida Craftsmen Gallery, 701 Central Ave., both in St. Petersburg. The project is called artlink, conceived by Grace-Ann Alfiero, co-founder of Creative Clay Cultural Arts Center. Artists who volunteered for the project were paired with adult students at Creative Clay. They began meeting weekly in January. Each team collaborated on at least two works, one for each venue. Both shows opened Friday. Before the opening at the museum, exhibit coordinator Allison Ben David oversees the installation in progress. Behind her are two artlink works. On the left is Common Ground I by Patsi Aguero and Michael Fridella; on the right is Husband and Wife by Rebecca Gifford and Debbie Turus. Both shows run through June 30.
