WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

WHEN/WHERE: Today-Sunday; Ralph-Straus Tennis Center, Pepperdine, Malibu, Calif.

TOP SEEDS: Stanford (27-0), Florida (23-2), Georgia (23-2), Wake Forest (23-2).

FORMAT: Sixteen teams will play best-of-nine dual matches consisting of six singles and three doubles matches. The team championship is Sunday. Individual singles and doubles tournaments will be held Monday-Friday.

NOTES: Florida won NCAA titles in 1992, '96 and '98 and has played in five consecutive championship matches. Today's round-of-16 matchup with Notre Dame creates a sibling rivalry between UF's Julia Scaringe and her sister, Sarah, who plays for the Irish. Defending champion Stanford has won 10 NCAA titles in the event's 18-year history, including six straight from 1986 to '91. Since then, no team has successfully defended its title.
