Art groups to have summer camps

The Citrus County Art League and the Citrus Performing Arts Center will offer youth summer camps focusing on the arts.

At the art league, high school painters can join the portrait artists group for free this summer. The portrait artists meet from 9:45 a.m. to noon every Friday at the center, 2644 N Annapolis Ave., off County Road 486 west of Hernando.

These are live-model sessions that offer an opportunity to complete an image in one sitting. The members works in all mediums. These are not art lessons, but students are encouraged to ask questions from the more seasoned portrait painters. Call 527-3227 or just show up on Fridays.

Also, a Youth Art Program for students ages 8 through 12 begins at the art league in June. Classes will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 1 to July 6 at the center.

Marian Fox and Ginger Harrison will teach the course. The art league will provide adult supervision and hold a reception and exhibit of the students' works at the conclusion of the course. The cost of this 20-hour course is $100. The art league provides all the supplies and class size is limited to 14 pupils. Registration deadline is May 25. Call Ginger Harrison at 527-6524.

The Citrus Performing Arts Center on Carter Street in Inverness will have two separate two-week sessions focusing on theater skills. The workshops will focus on acting, music, comedy, dance, modeling, voice, costumes and theater staging. Instructors are Barbara Balser and Beth Evans.

Sessions are June 12 to 23 and July 10 to 21. Both sessions are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Cost is $130 and classes are open to children age 6 or older.
