Alpha Kappa Alpha opens Akademy for Gents

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Akademy has been granted $32,000 in additional funding from the Juvenile Welfare Board to establish the AKA Akademy for Gents. The program is designed to provide youth development programs, including leadership development workshops and retreats, and family values seminars, and to encourage education preparedness for male youths ages 10-14 who reside in target areas in St. Petersburg. The new program mirrors the AKA Exquisite Gems program already in place for adolescent females. Smoke detectors for

qualified residents

Operation FireSafe is once again gearing up to distribute, deliver and install an additional 21,000 free smoke detectors to lower-income and senior residents around the state. To make a request, call your local fire department or (800) 342-2762.
