Airside goes by the wayside

Published Sep. 27, 2005

Construction workers Monday begin demolition of Airside E at Tampa International Airport. Workers will replace the airside, which is one of two not in use, with a new, state-of-the-art facility that will include 247,000 square feet and 14 gates. The airside work is part of a long-term improvement plan that officials last year estimated would cost about $1-billion. The master plan calls for the first phase of work to include expansion of tram platforms serving Airsides C and E to accommodate two-car passenger transport systems.
