NO. 1 INDIANA VS. NO. 3 NEW YORK

SEASON SERIES: 2-2.

COACHES: Pacers _ Larry Bird. Knicks _ Jeff Van Gundy.

KEY PLAYERS: Pacers _ Reggie Miller, G (25 ppg in the playoffs), Jalen Rose, F (20.6 ppg), Dale Davis, F (7.5 ppg, 11.1 rpg). Knicks _ Latrell Sprewell, F (18.1 ppg), Allan Houston, G (16.8 ppg), Patrick Ewing, C (14.8 ppg, 10.5 rpg).

THE WORD: This is a rematch of last season's conference final. The Pacers are rested, while Knicks might be weary from going the distance with Miami.

TO ADVANCE: The Knicks need the suffocating defense it used in holding the Pacers to 39.7 percent shooting during the regular season. Outrebounding Indiana is crucial, as is getting more from bench players Marcus Camby and Kurt Thomas. The Pacers need Miller to continue playing like Superman. They also need to get to the free-throw line where they have shot 80.3 percent in the playoffs. If they lose home court, they'll be toast.

PREDICTION: Pacers in six.
