Richard and Mildred Mathias of Carrollwood celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 9.
The Mathiases met as students at George Washington University, where they both graduated. They were married in Washington, D.C.
Richard Mathias served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He later was a trial attorney for the Federal Trade Commission and retired as a federal administrative law judge in 1985.
The couple, who moved to Tampa in 1972, have four sons and daughters-in-law, all in Florida: Thomas and Deborah of Palm City; James and Alyce of Tampa; John and Angela of St. Petersburg; and Richard and Carla of Tampa.
They have nine grandchildren: Morgan, Claire, Mitchell, Andrew, Brett, Alexa, Hunter, Devin and Serryn. Richard and Mildred Mathias are members of Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church.
