Louis and Elizabeth Stroble
Louis and Elizabeth Stroble of Spring Hill recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. The couple was married Aug. 4, 1945, in Augusta, Ga.
Both Strobles served overseas in the armed forces during World War II but did not meet until they returned to the United States and were stationed at Oliver General Hospital in Augusta.
Stroble was a lieutenant in the Medical Administrative Corps, and Mrs. Stroble was a captain in the Army Nurse Corps. They moved to Spring Hill in 1979.
The Strobles have one son, Kenneth Stroble; a daughter-in-law, Jamee, of Elk Grove, Ill.; and one granddaughter.
The couple celebrated with family at Bern's Steak House in Tampa.
Charles and Sadie Watkins
Charles and Sadie Watkins of Spring Hill recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Watkins was born in El Cajon, Calif., and Mrs. Watkins was born in Crystal Falls, Mich. The couple met while Watkins was vacationing in Michigan; they were married Aug. 10, 1940, in Yuma, Ariz.
Watkins was an over-the-road driver who delivered ambulances, fire engines and big rigs throughout the United States before retiring to Florida in 1972. After raising their five children, Mrs. Watkins worked for 10 years as a clerk for McCrory's.
The Watkins moved to Spring Hill from Largo in 1985. The couple bowled in bowling leagues for many years, and Watkins, 85, continues to bowl in two leagues and competes in senior tournaments.
The couple has three sons and three daughters-in-law: James and his wife, Barbara, of Michigan; Kenneth and his wife, Susan, of Largo; and Tracy and his wife, Joan, of St. Petersburg; two daughters and one son-in-law: Charlene Jenkins of Michigan; and Deborah Marenco and her husband, Rene, of Spring Hill; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
The Watkinses celebrated July 29 at the Blue Dolphin restaurant in Hudson.
