Hillsborough County Sheriff's detectives are investigating an abduction report by two boys found in a stolen vehicle.
Deputies found the boys, ages 12 and 13, in the back of a 1987 beige Chevrolet van that they tried to stop near Sun City Center about 12:15 a.m. Saturday.
"The vehicle was driving slowly, acting in a suspicious manner," said sheriff's Sgt. Harold Winsett. A check of the van's tag revealed it had been reported stolen.
After seeing the patrol car following it, the van stopped and two older teenage boys jumped out and ran into some woods near Cypress Village and Upper Creek, deputies said. The area was searched with helicopters and dogs, but the older boys were not found.
The younger boys told deputies they had been walking near a convenience store in Wimauma at about midnight when they were forced into the van. Deputies released them to the custody of their parents.
"We're working it as a bona fide abduction, but we view it as an isolated incident," said Winsett.
