NEW TAMPA JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB: The New Tampa Junior Woman's Club is sponsoring an informational meeting at 7 p.m. at Compton Park, 16101 Compton Park Drive. The membership drive is open to women who live in the New Tampa area and are interested in becoming a member for 2000-2001. The club is a non-profit organization that offers a way for women to meet new people, make friends and improve the community. Also, the club sponsors a number of fundraisers. LEARNING IN RETIREMENT: The Learning in Retirement Institute at the University of South Florida, 4202 E Fowler Ave., will host its annual membership coffee at 1 p.m. Thomas Tighe, director of USF's Center for the Brain and Behavior, will give a presentation about the center. LIR, part of the Elderhostel Institute Network, is an active community of older learners. Study groups meet once a week for eight weeks. For information or reservations, call (813) 974-2403.


CROP 'TIL YOU DROP: Pet owners are invited to bring their pets for a charity grooming event at Pasco Veterinary Medical Center, 4575 Pet Lane in Lutz. "Crop 'til You Drop" will run from 2 to 4 p.m. and includes discounts on baths, dips and specialty grooming. The staff will be donating their time. Proceeds will go to the Joshua House, a home for abused and neglected children and teenage moms and their babies. Advance registration is appreciated. SHELTER AT TRAIL: The public is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. for the opening of a new shelter at the Town 'N Country Greenway Trail at the western terminus at Webb Road. The $4,444 project was constructed by the Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department with funds donated by the Town 'N Country Park Homeowners Civic Association. Community volunteers helped plant 48 crape myrtle trees and 16 oak trees along the trail in a beautification project in August.
