BLUE JAYS 6, TIGERS 2: A year after elbow surgery, Chris Carpenter is still recovering. Carpenter, who had surgery last September, won his first start in more than two months and host Toronto moved into second place in the East.
"There's no question I feel better right now than two months ago," Carpenter said. "But some of my pitches don't come as easily as they used to."
The right-hander allowed an earned run and struck out five in his fourth start after five consecutive relief appearances.
Carpenter retired Bobby Higginson, Juan Gonzalez and Tony Clark with the bases loaded in the third inning.
WHITE SOX AT INDIANS, PPD.: The series finale was rained out after the teams waited more than two hours for the weather to clear. The game has not been rescheduled. If needed, the game might be made up Oct. 2.
