Man accused of hitting girlfriend, her son

Officials say a Brooksville man threatened his girlfriend with a knife and hit her 8-year-old son after the boy ate the man's hot dog. According to a report from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, Wayne Carter, 36, hit his live-in girlfriend several times, knocking her to the ground. When witnesses tried to help, Carter pulled out a pocket knife and threatened to cut the woman's throat. Witnesses told police that Carter forced the woman and her son into a car, slamming the passenger door on the boy's leg. Carter was later arrested and taken to Hernando County Jail. Late Sunday, he was being held on a $20,000 bond.
