Pilot not injured in emergency landing

A man flying a single-engine plane had to make an emergency landing on a street in north Tampa on Sunday afternoon.

The 1976 Cessna had been pulling a banner seen at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game at Raymond James stadium when it lost power. The pilot, Michael D. Avella of Altamonte Springs, turned the plane around as it lost altitude and guided it down to 131st Street just east of Nebraska Avenue.

The plane skidded and ran into a fence, but was mostly intact after the crash. Avella was not injured in the landing.
