A woman fishing on a bridge died when she was struck by a train, but three companions survived by jumping over the railing and into the water.
Volusia Sheriff Office spokesman Gary Davidson identified the victim Sunday as Teodora Vriostequi, 30, of DeLand.
She had been fishing over Turnbull Bay with two other women and a man Saturday night when others fishing nearby warned them about the approaching train.
The four started running to escape the southbound Florida East Coast train, while others fishing near the bridge urged them to jump into the water 15 feet below, witnesses said.
The two other women and the man all jumped into the bay, but Vriostequi kept running and was struck by the train, witnesses said.
The names of her surviving companions could not be confirmed immediately Sunday. The sheriff's office was still investigating the incident, Davidson said.
