Drainage improvements to be discussed

Hillsborough County staff and engineers will hold a public meeting to discuss drainage improvements along Hill Street and Eckles Drive in Forest Hills at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria at Lake Magdalene Elementary School, 2002 Pine Lake Drive. Residents may ask questions about the $93,000 that will include upgrading the existing drainage system. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2001 and be completed by mid 2002. The facility is in accordance with the Americans With Disabilities Act. Additional necessary accommodations will be provided with a 48-hour notice. For information, call (813) 272-5275.

Author to sign copies of first novel

Arles Carballo will sign copies of his first novel, In the Shadow of Gleam, at 7 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble Bookstore-Tampa, 213 N Dale Mabry Highway. The book is about two youngsters struggling with adolescence and their adventures that take them from the Everglades to Miami's South Beach. Maida Millan, who shot the cover photographs, will also be on hand to autograph copies of the book. For information, call (813) 871-2228.
