High school students throughout Pinellas and Hillsborough counties are invited to take part in the sixth annual Tony Jannus Essay Contest. Essays should be 1,000 to 1,500 words in length and submitted to the St. Petersburg Museum of History, 335 Second Ave. NE, no later than Sept. 22. The topic is "Founders," and students are asked to choose one of the past five award recipients and write a biographical sketch of that person while exploring how that individual was worthy of the Tony Jannus Award. The top 10 essay writers will receive cash prizes, and the grand prize winner will receive a trip to Washington, D.C. For more information and for the names of past award winners, call (727) 894-1052.
