A few years ago we were talking about trolling for bass with crankbaits. We had a few so we headed for a creek to see if a snook or red would fall for such a simple presentation. We started trolling 3- and 4-inch crankbaits rigged to 6-pound test with a 20-pound leader. We hooked a 20-inch redfish in less then a minute and before the two-hour trip ended we had five reds up to 28 inches and two 24-inch snook.
The best colors were black back with either a gold or silver side. Lures should be staggered with one at 40 feet and the other around 60 to 80. Your speed should be just fast enough to get the lures close to the bottom. Stay as close the mangroves as you can without snagging the roots.
