A 27-year-old man was charged with aggravated battery and armed burglary Tuesday night after he stole some things from a man's truck and later stabbed the man on his right hand and chest, authorities said.
The victim, John Filipietz, told New Port Richey Police that he noticed a man, later identified as John Greer, standing near his truck about 9:30 p.m. in the parking lot of his business. Shortly afterward, Filipietz said he discovered some things were missing from his truck.
Police said Filipietz saw Greer across the street, in the parking lot of 6813 U.S. 19, with his possessions. Filipietz retrieved the items, police said, and went back across the street.
Filipietz returned to his truck at 11:10 p.m. and found Greer inside. Police said Greer asked Filipietz for help, and as Filipietz was driving him to the police station, Greer stabbed him with a knife.
Greer got out of the truck on River Road and ran toward U.S. 19, and Filipietz called for help. Police found Greer lying near a tree at 6813 U.S. 19. Filipietz identified Greer as the man who attacked him, and a knife found in his car matched a sheath on Greer's belt, a report said.
It was unclear from the officer's report whether Filipietz was treated at a hospital for his injuries.
Greer, of 6936 Sunlight Lane, New Port Richey, was being held Wednesday at the county jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $60,500 bail.
Barking dog spurs
father, son fight
NEW PORT RICHEY _ When his father's dog wouldn't stop barking, Robert Tom Jones Jr. tried to strangle the dog and later got into a fight with his father, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
Jones, 34, of 9421 Teak St., New Port Richey, was charged with domestic battery on a person over 65 and cruelty to animals.
Deputies said he tried to kill his father's small dog by choking it at 11:43 a.m. on Tuesday.
His father, Robert Jones Sr., struck his son in the head so he would stop abusing the animal, and Jones Jr. responded by hitting his father in the face, deputies said.
Jones Jr. then knocked over the Christmas tree in the living room and walked outside, deputies said. Jones also broke a front window in his father's mobile home.
Deputies searched for Jones Jr. and found him in a field near the house. The father did not need treatment for his injuries.
Jones Jr. was held in lieu of $15,500 bail at the county jail in Land O'Lakes.
Woman jailed in
PORT RICHEY _ When Pasco Fire Rescue emergency workers responded to an overdose call on Grant Drive on Christmas, a 29-year-old woman lunged at one of the workers with a large kitchen knife, Pasco County sheriff's deputies said.
Amy Calcoit's boyfriend told rescue workers that she took an unknown number of pills and locked herself in the bathroom about 7:40 p.m.
Rescue workers unlocked the bathroom door and Calcoit jumped toward one worker, George Truell, and tried to stab him in the face, deputies said.
Truell wasn't injured, and when deputies arrived, they found Calcoit holding a large bottle of wine in her left hand and the knife in her right hand. Deputy Clark Reese ordered the woman to put the knife down, and drew his gun, a report stated.
She told Reese, "I'm not putting the knife down, you're going to have to shoot me," according to the report.
Reese struck Calcoit's right hand with his baton, knocking the knife out of her hand, the report said.
She was booked into the county jail and held in lieu of $1,500 bail.
