Rejuvenated Dunedin defeats Wesley Chapel

Dunedin rebounded from Wednesday's 10-1 loss to Ridgewood with a 4-2 win over Wesley Chapel on the second day of the Ridgewood Rams Winter Classic on Thursday.

Dunedin's goalie play improved as A.J. Littlepage and James Booth combined for eight saves.

"I think the difference was probably a carry-over from the second half against Ridgewood," Dunedin coach Gerald Clemente said. "They definitely got embarrassed about that."

Wesley Chapel struggled with the passing game as Dunedin consistently beat it to the ball.

"The first touch was way off, and in passing, we were too weak," Wesley Chapel coach Jimmy Hymiller said.

Bret Hansen scored twice for the Falcons (1-1 in the round robin tournament), including the first goal, a 25-yarder that bounced through the keeper's hands.

Jeff Mann also scored twice for Dunedin, the second goal coming off of a free kick at the edge of the box.

Mann also assisted on Hansen's second goal.

Trent Cooper scored near the end of the first half to cut Dunedin's lead to 2-1 going into the break.

Mike Camunas scored the Wildcats' second goal on a through ball from Chad Jones to make it 3-2 before Mann made it 4-2.

Wesley Chapel, which won by forfeit over an absent Eustis Wednesday, now is 1-1.

The second game was a defensive battle early between Ridgewood and Lake Region, but Ridgewood scored three in overtime to win 4-2.

Jose Anazco broke the stalemate 6{ minutes into the second half, heading in a 30-yard free kick by Shawn Bean.

Lake Region (1-1) tied it 25 minutes later on a penalty kick by Chris Smith.

The game stayed tied until the end of regulation.

Jason Meyer scored on a cross from Anazco 30 seconds into the first of two five-minute overtimes to pull the Rams ahead. Anazco put in another a few minutes later.

The Thunder closed the gap in the second overtime when Travis Jennings put the ball in off of a free kick by Nick Bairley. But Francis Casey answered quickly to put the Rams back up by two.

NEW SCHEDULE: With Eustis out of the tournament here is the revised schedule for today: Lake Region vs. Wesley Chapel at 6 p.m. and Dunedin plays Gulf at 8 p.m.

Gulf must beat Dunedin by 10 goals to take the title away from Ridgewood via point differential.
