Police were searching Friday night for the driver of a car that struck a pedestrian on Cleveland Street near downtown Clearwater and drove away. Witnesses told police a dark-colored car was speeding and weaving as it headed east on Cleveland Street about 7:30 p.m. The car struck a man, thought to be in his 40s, who was walking south across the 1200 block of Cleveland, police spokesman Wayne Shelor said. "It was more a clip than a hit," Shelor said, adding the victim was conscious when he was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. His condition was not known late Friday, but Shelor said his injuries were serious. The driver of the car, possibly a black compact, turned south on Betty Lane and sped away, Shelor said. Witnesses said it appeared three or four teens were inside, with a male driving and a female passenger in the front seat, police said.
